A former Thembelihle pupil says children have no confidence to attend school with broken shoes, a problem which he aims to counteract. Johannesburg-based Pro-Gear Group Solutions business owner.
Simphiwe Mpumela recently ploughed back 100 pairs of shoes to underprivileged pupils at the school. Mpumela believes a pair of shoes is just what some pupils need to continue on their journey of pursuing an education.
“You cannot force a child to reach a certain goal without giving them support. If you give them the confidence they will continues to go to school.
“I give out of the kindness of my heart without expecting anything in return.
“I told the principal I was not coming, but he begged me to come in person.
This was not his first project. He said he had also recently donated shoes to Mpendulo Primary School in Mlungisi and at the time when Covid-19 was rife he contributed face masks to a school in Ndlovukazi and to one of there. schools in Johannesburg.
Mpumela, who has a giving spirit, said: “I have managed to donate to eight schools so far.
“When a child does not have shoes or a complete uniform they feel something is missing in them, they have no confidence in class, but the moment they feel identical to others, it gives them a boost.”
